Convert TS to MP4

Turn TS videos into MP4 files that play on any phone or computer. The video is copied into the MP4 instead of re-encoded, so quality stays exactly the same and it takes seconds. TV recordings, AVCHD camcorder clips (.mts) and many dashcam and recorder exports are MPEG-TS; H.264 and H.265 ones convert in seconds, MPEG-2 ones need re-encoding. It runs in your browser, so your videos are never uploaded.

TS to MP4: questions

How do I convert TS to MP4?

Rewrap the video instead of re-encoding it. On tuul.io you add your TS files and download the MP4s: the video is copied over as it is, so quality stays the same and even a large file takes seconds rather than minutes.

What is a TS file?

TS is short for MPEG transport stream, the format digital TV, IPTV, AVCHD camcorders (.mts and .m2ts) and many dashcams and recorders use. It's made for broadcasting, so many phones, editors and upload forms don't accept it. Rewrapping it as MP4 keeps the same video.

Can I convert MTS camcorder clips?

Yes. AVCHD camcorders save H.264 video in .mts or .m2ts files, which convert to MP4 without re-encoding. Their AC-3 sound is kept by default, or converted to AAC if you choose Convert to AAC.

Why can't my TV recording be converted?

Most DVB TV recordings use MPEG-2 video. An MP4 can hold MPEG-2, but phones and browsers can't play it from there, so it needs re-encoding, for example with HandBrake. The file's row says when that's the case.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. The converter downloads once to your browser and then runs on your device, so your videos never leave it.

Can I convert several videos at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; they are converted one after another and each gets its own download button.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in current versions of Safari and Chrome. Very large files can run out of memory on phones, so for videos over about 1 GB a computer is more reliable.
